 CEIP MELQUIADES HIDALGO - Projects

The School

CEIP contributes from the school to the integral education of the person, emphasising projects in which Education for Global Citizenship and training in democratic values go together aiming to educate people capable of participating and changing society.
This type of projects developed at school are carried out with the collaboration and recognition of different local, regional, national and international institutions:

PROJECT SDGs

Students learn to identify the 17 SDGs  SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS through play.
Working with the youngest students is very rewarding. Teachers can observe how they are learning day by day with so much enthusiasm. They have learnt to identify the 17 SDGs SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS) while playing. They do not need to know the goals or who wrote them…but they know that there are 17 colours in a wheel with 17 drawings that tell us stories.

PROJECT Students Council

With the students council pupils actively participate in decision-making in the school community.
The student´s council is a very important body for the school (CEIP). Even though they are young, CEIP believes they have a lot to say and decide about their daily life at school, as this is a place where many people coexist.
The possibility of making proposals and saying what they think empowers them, make them feel important. And it makes them realize the importance of respecting, being tolerant and listening to others.
Students have been having meetings outside the school, in an open space, because the pandemic situation does not allow CEIP to bring children from different levels together in an enclosed space. In this video you can see students explaining how the selection process to be part of this council is taken place and they go on with a small working session in which they have to choose a topic to work on during the month ahead.

PROJECT THE MUSEUM

CEIP is a social space in which people learn, share, and live together. The attitudes developed within it will be transmitted and passed on to society. Teachers are responsible for developing, promoting, and encouraging values such as respect, solidarity, justice, and peace.
Art is a very interesting resource that communicates, evokes, and generates emotions and reactions in those who observe them, allowing reflection and expression. Art can also help us to see things differently, discover new cultures, feelings, values. This will help us to form self-sufficient, dialoguing people, as well as develop the ability to "start" an individual and collective commitment to promote change against social injustices and solve problems.
Students learn about democratic values by analyzing a work of art, researching the period in which it was created and what it represents. And, thus, offer some of the possibilities that art has when it comes to bringing infant and primary school students closer to acquiring values.
Students from 5th and 6th grade explain what they have learnt with the artworks and how they connect them with democratic values. It is a simple sample of the work carried out in the class.

PROJECT 3,2,1…ACTION

CEIP worked with the story “The Bibliodonkey” to emphasise the importance of the “Right to Education” and that without education people are not able to choose, to decide, to discuss.
It is a real story from Colombia. The main character is a man called Luis who tries to bring books to the kids from rural areas who don´t have books. He started this adventure in 1997. The 4 years old students tell this story and learn the importance of the “Right to Education” for all children.

PROJECT The Bride in Mostar

How do we tell the little ones that is so important to be friends, to respect each other, to talk to each other and not to get angry?
CEIP has made a simile BRIDGE = UNION. A bridge allows people to get closer, to communicate. In CEIPs' town, Cabezón de Pisuerga, there is also a bridge that most of the students have to cross to go to school, so they understand well what it would mean to be without it.
The 4-year-old students reinterpreted the story of what happened to Mostar´s bridge and tell us on their own way not talking about war but about conflict. CEIP believes that this story could be a good way to understand a bridge as a symbol of unity and peace.

PROJECT Shadow Theater

In this activity CEIP is dealing with the problem of non-communication using shadow play. If there is no dialogue, the conflicts will arise. Only when we are willing to cooperate and be tolerant, we are able to get the best out of ourselves.
For this performance students had to understand the importance of collaboration, participation, and respect among the members of the group, as they work as a team to ensure that everything goes well.
It is an example of collaborative work among children: each team had a different task (shadows´ making, sound system and special effects, voices…). They have learnt that if one fails, they all fail and that the effort of each of them is necessary to succeed.

PROJECT In Spite of Cornona Covid 19

CEIPs' students have moments to express what the pandemic has meant for them: they share their emotions, hopes, the good and the bad side of it. If you want to learn more, you can visit their website.
